Ukraine’s compliance with the EU’s foreign policy and defense strategy has reached a historic level: MFA

Ukraine has achieved full compliance with the foreign policy, security policy and defense strategy of the European Union. About this reported The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, referring to the results of the official screening of Ukrainian legislation conducted by the EU in preparation for the upcoming accession negotiations.

According to the results of the EU screening of Ukrainian legislation in the “Foreign policy, security and defense policy” section, which ended in early March, in 2024 the level of compliance of Ukrainian policy with EU foreign policy decisions and statements was 95%, but already at the beginning of 2025, Ukraine achieved full synchronization — 100%. This indicator was confirmed during the verification of compliance with legislation in the field of foreign policy, security and defense, which was completed at the beginning of March this year.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called it a “historic achievement” that demonstrates not only technical, but also political readiness of Ukraine to be part of the European community. The agency emphasizes that the result was made possible thanks to systematic work on the harmonization of the regulatory framework, practices and positions of the state with the general line of the EU in international issues.

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sybiga, it is not only about the formal coordination of documents, but about real political and security rapprochement, which has become especially relevant against the background of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine and the transformation of the European security system.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also informed that in the near future it is planned to open a negotiation cluster “External relations”, which will become part of the official negotiations regarding Ukraine’s membership in the EU. According to the diplomats, this stage should be the next important step on the way to Ukraine’s full membership in the European Union.
