Ukrenergo held the fourth auction for the purchase of fast reserves

NEC “Ukrenergo” held the fourth long-term auction for the purchase of auxiliary services to support the stability of the energy system of Ukraine. 52 companies participated in the auction, 249 MW of fast reserves were accepted. About this reported on the company’s official website.

Although this amount is relatively small (for example, one power unit of a nuclear power plant can provide up to 1000 MW), the fast reserve plays a key role in stabilizing the power system.  A total of 52 companies participated in the auction. Among them were both existing providers of auxiliary services and investors who plan to build new generation capacities – gas piston, gas turbine plants, biomass power plants and energy storage systems.

All these objects must be able to quickly change the amount of generation at the command of NEC “Ukrenergo” within 15 minutes. The winners of the special auction have until the end of November 2026 to build the relevant facilities, undergo certification and start providing services.

The weighted average price of accepted offers for load services amounted to UAH 949.45 per MW, and for symmetrical reserve services — UAH 762.80 per MW. It is expected that over five years, savings on the purchase of download services will amount to more than 233 million hryvnias, while on the symmetrical reserve – almost 5 billion hryvnias. Provision of relevant services is planned from December 1, 2026.
