“Ukrzaliznytsia” updated the rules for transporting animals in trains. As reported the press service of the company, before making changes, railway experts held consultations with the UAnimals organization, representatives of the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development, as well as transport experts from partner countries.
According to the new rules, large dogs over 45 cm tall at the withers can now travel in all types of carriages. In “Intercity+” trains, this is possible on the condition that all seats located in a single row are purchased. At the same time, dogs must be on the floor next to the owner – under the seat or next to it. In sleeping cars of the “Lux” class and international cars of the RIC standard, the rule of buying out the entire compartment, which was already applied before, applies.
Service dogs of the Defense Forces may travel free of charge in any type of carriage, regardless of size, provided they are muzzled and on a leash.
As for small animals (cats and dogs of small breeds up to 45 cm at the withers), they can stay in the compartment without a carrier for comfortable sleep and movement – provided that all seats in the compartment are purchased. Carrying does not have to be rigid anymore – it is allowed to use modern carrying bags, backpacks or other containers with a waterproof bottom.
In all cases, the passenger must carry veterinary documents, an animal ticket, a leash and a muzzle (for large dogs – for the entire duration of the trip). The owner of the animal is responsible for the comfort of the animal and passengers.
If other passengers feel discomfort or have an allergic reaction to the animal, Ukrzaliznytsia asks to contact the stewards or conductors. The train crew will offer another convenient place to continue the trip.
