Verkhovna Rada limits pensions for those convicted of crimes against national security

On May 15, the Verkhovna Rada adopted draft law No. 10355, which provides for the limitation of pension payments for persons convicted of crimes against national security. 244 People’s Deputies voted for the relevant decision. About this reported People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak.

According to the document, pensions will be paid in a reduced amount to persons who are serving sentences in the form of restriction or deprivation of liberty for intentional criminal offenses against national security, terrorism, war crimes, and crimes against peace and humanity — no more than the living wage for disabled persons.

The law enters into force three months after its official publication. For those who are already serving sentences under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code, the new rules will come into effect on the first day of the month following their entry into force.

The list of articles covered by the law includes the provisions of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on crimes against the foundations of national security, including overthrowing the government, separatism, treason, collaborationism, espionage, aiding and abetting an aggressor, sabotage and obstruction of the Armed Forces (Articles 109, 110, 110², 111, parts 3–8 of Articles 111¹, 111², 113, 114, 114¹).

In addition, the restrictions apply to persons convicted of crimes against public security — in particular, for terrorist activities, their financing, the creation of terrorist organizations or illegal armed formations (Articles 258, 258², 258³, 258⁵, 260).

The law also covers crimes against peace, international legal order and humanity, including aggressive war, genocide, ecocide, war crimes, mercenary and crimes against humanity (Articles 437, 438, 441, 442, 442¹, 447).
