46% of Ukrainians have mental health problems due to the war: WHO

According to the World Health Organization, 46% of Ukrainians faced mental health problems as a result of the war. About this it is said in the WHO report.

As of the end of last year, 68% of Ukrainians noted a deterioration in their health compared to the pre-war period.

The most common problems were:

  • 46% of people suffer from mental health problems.
  • Mental health disorders – 41%.
  • Neurological disorders – 39%.

“The main barriers to care for patients with non-communicable diseases remain limited access to health services and the high cost of drugs. This makes people with chronic diseases vulnerable to treatment interruptions and irreversible health deterioration.”, – the WHO notes.

According to the organization, the war significantly increased the need for medical assistance, especially in the field of traumatology and rehabilitation. By the middle of 2024, 100,000 limb amputations have been performed in Ukraine.

“The acute shortage of specialists in the fields of trauma, prosthetics and rehabilitation has further exacerbated the crisis. Recovery is often a matter of time, but is also a matter of access to the necessary services. Long-term rehabilitation will play a key role in the physical and psychological recovery of people injured in war.” – the report says.
