‘For the first time, Naftogaz explains why Ukrtransnafta is not terminating its agreement with Russia’s Transneft

The agreement between Ukrtransnafta and Russian Transnafta on oil transit will be valid until January 1, 2030, it cannot be terminated due to Ukraine’s obligations under the Association Agreement with the EU. This was reported by representatives of Naftogaz JSC in response to questions regarding the transit of Russian oil through the territory of Ukraine.

“It cannot be terminated in view of Ukraine’s obligations under the Association Agreement with the EU. At the same time, Ukrtransnafta increased the tariff for oil transportation by more than two times during the full-scale invasion.”, — the company commented.

At the same time, “Naftogaz” emphasized that Ukrtransnafta is not a party to the contracts of the Hungarian company MOL Group with other partners regarding the transportation of oil through Ukraine, therefore it cannot comment on their details.

The company also noted the importance of reducing Russia’s profits from the sale of oil and gas.

“We expect that in the future Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia will completely renounce Russian energy resources. Within the framework of the above-mentioned agreement, Ukraine will transit oil from the border with Belarus”, – added in the NAK.

It will be recalled that in September, the Hungarian company MOL Group announced the conclusion of a permanent contract for the supply of crude oil through the Druzhba pipeline through the territory of Ukraine from Russia to Hungary and Slovakia. Experts also noted that the new terms of the agreement formally stipulate that Ukrtransnafta transports European products, since Russian oil is transferred on the eastern border of Ukraine.
