The nature of modern warfare is constantly changing, which requires new solutions to preserve the life and health of servicemen. With this in mind, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine developed regulatory and technical documentation for a new means of personal protection — a protective awning (armored blanket).
“Our main task is to provide the military with modern means of protection. The development of regulatory and technical documentation for the armored blanket is another step towards increasing the level of personnel safety in the conditions of modern combat operations.” — said the director of the Department of Procurement Policy of the Ministry of Defense Hleb Kanevskyi.
The bulletproof vest provides protection against bullets and fragments in accordance with STANAG 2920 Ed.3 / AEP 2920 Ed.AVer.2 standards, which guarantees a high level of resistance to means of damage. The main element is a soft ballistic module made of multi-layered elastic material enclosed in a sealed water-repellent cover.
In the unfolded state, the armored blanket has a size of 160×80 cm and weighs about 10 kg. Its design allows you to conveniently fold the product into 3-4 layers, which allows you to use it as a mobile shield – by attaching it to your arm or shoulder. Special adjustable straps are provided for transportation.
“An armored blanket allows you to adapt to situations when you need to instantly take cover from shelling or an explosion, quickly close a window or door opening, or even protect expensive equipment from shrapnel damage. It is not just an awning – it is a means of survival, which can be the decisive factor between injury and salvation”, – emphasized Lieutenant Colonel Maksym Kayola, head of the Central Department for the Development of Material Support.
