EU and the world

The United Kingdom, following the United States, has also imposed sanctions against Russian energy companies

Great Britain followed the USA in imposing sanctions against two large Russian energy companies. About this informs British government website.

“The UK and the US have for the first time imposed direct sanctions against Gazprom Nafta and PJSC Surgutneftegaz, two Russian oil giants. These energy companies produce more than 1 million barrels of oil per day between them – worth about $23 billion a year at current prices. which exceeds the GDP of Jamaica. The profits from these two companies fill Putin’s coffers and contribute to the war.” – the message says.

Oil is a key source of revenue for Russia’s military economy, providing roughly a quarter of the country’s budget in 2023. The British authorities expect that these sanctions will significantly limit Russia’s ability to earn profits from the export of energy carriers.

“Oil revenues are the lifeblood of Putin’s military economy. We will not allow oil revenues to endanger the lives of Ukrainians, nor will we allow Russia to continue to fill its coffers as it continues to threaten our collective security.

The fight against Russian oil companies will deplete Russia’s military budget – and every ruble we take out of Putin’s hands helps save Ukrainian lives.”, – noted the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Great Britain David Lammy.
