There are no plans to introduce new restrictions on clients’ bank accounts: the NBU denied the fake

The National Bank of Ukraine currently does not plan to introduce additional restrictions on customer bank accounts. According to the official statement of the regulator, banks, payment systems and financial institutions continue to operate within the framework of the current legislation on financial monitoring, and also comply with the NBU’s requirements for checking their clients.

Recent reports in some mass media and on Telegram channels, which claimed that the National Bank is allegedly planning to block customers’ cards if the amount of turnover exceeds the income indicated in the questionnaire, should be considered distorted. Deputy Chairman of the NBU Dmytro Oliynyk only noted that the National Bank recommends that banks use the client’s income, indicated in his questionnaire, as a reference point for monitoring financial activity. However, there was no mention of automatic blocking of cards when the specified amount was exceeded.

Therefore, no blocking of accounts or cards based on this criterion is currently planned. The National Bank continues to emphasize the importance of cooperation between banks in order to increase the transparency of financial transactions and prevent financial abuse, without creating additional difficulties for clients.
