Trump threatens tariffs in the Strait of Hormuz in favor of the US if the Iran deal collapses

US President Donald Trump said that ships would not pay tolls for passing through the Strait of Hormuz either during the ceasefire or after the 60-day period. He called the only exception the possible introduction of tariffs by and in favor of the United States if an agreement with Iran is not reached. Trump wrote about this on his social network Truth Social.

“For 60 days during the ceasefire period in the Strait of Hormuz, and after the end of this 60-day period, no tariffs will be levied, except in cases where they are imposed by and for the benefit of the United States of America in the event that a deal with Iran is not concluded, for services provided as a “guardian angel” escort to the countries of the Middle East to reimburse past, present and future costs,” Trump said.

On June 20, Iran’s military leadership announced another closure of the Strait of Hormuz, claiming the US had violated the agreement.

On the evening of June 15, Trump announced the conclusion of a peace agreement with Iran. The document stipulates that Tehran must completely unblock the Strait of Hormuz for the passage of commercial vessels, and the US must lift the naval blockade of Iranian ports.

On June 18, the US and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding to end the war. The document has already entered into force. At the same time, Trump again threatened to resume attacks if Iran does not fulfill its obligations.
