U.S. Senate approves Doug Bergham as Secretary of the Interior

The Senate has confirmed former North Dakota governor and businessman Doug Bergam, nominated by US President Donald Trump, to head the US Department of the Interior. About this informs ABC News.

Bergam’s candidacy was supported by 79 senators, while 18 were opposed. During the hearings, he announced his intention to expand auctions for the right to develop oil and gas fields, as well as to support reforms that would simplify the procedure for issuing permits. This, in his opinion, will contribute to the faster development of energy projects, in particular the construction of power transmission lines and pipelines.

He raised concerns about the reliability of renewable energy, which was promoted under former President Joe Biden, and said the US needs to generate more electricity from sources such as coal and nuclear power that can run continuously.

Doug Bergham, 68, is a successful software entrepreneur who was born in a small farming community in North Dakota and worked in the family elevator. He served as governor of the oil-rich state twice, and in 2023 he launched a presidential campaign. However, after a few months, he withdrew his candidacy and expressed his support for Donald Trump.
