UAE to teach artificial intelligence starting in kindergarten

The leadership of the United Arab Emirates has decided to introduce the study of artificial intelligence into the compulsory curriculum at all educational levels – from kindergarten to 12th grade. This was stated by the Prime Minister of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, informs Khaleej Times.
The new course will begin to be taught from the next academic year in state educational institutions across the country. This initiative is part of the country’s long-term strategy to prepare young people for life in the future technological world.
“Our goal is not only to develop in children a technical understanding of artificial intelligence, but also to raise their awareness of the ethical aspects associated with this technology. We want them to be aware of data, algorithms, applications, risks, and the impact of AI on society and everyday life.”— Sheikh Mohammed explained.
UAE Minister of Education Sara bint Youssef Al Amiri noted that the new educational program includes the main areas. Among them are the basic principles of artificial intelligence, working with data and algorithms, using software, ethical issues of AI, practical examples, innovation and design using AI, public policy in this field, as well as participation in social projects related to technological development.
The minister added that teachers will receive full methodological support — they will be provided with ready-made lesson notes, templates, tasks and tools that can be adapted to different teaching formats.
“It is our responsibility to prepare children for a time that will be different from ours. We must give them the skills that will ensure the sustainable growth and progress of the country in the coming decades.” Sheikh Mohammed emphasized.
