Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine seeks to obtain licenses for the production of missiles for Patriot air defense systems
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine would like to receive licenses to produce missiles for Patriot air defense systems. He emphasized this during a press conference with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.
“I started this conversation with President Biden and will continue with President Trump, I would really like Ukrainian production to receive licenses to produce PAC-3 [missiles for Patriot], so that we can help others when needed. Ukraine has not received a license to produce PAC-3. I believe that in the future, maybe we will receive or have our own system,” the president said.
Zelensky stressed that there is currently no alternative to Patriot systems in the field of anti-ballistic defense. He noted that Ukraine has agreements with France and Germany on future aid packages, but, according to him, air defense means are needed now.
Volodymyr Zelensky previously sent an urgent letter to US President Donald Trump and the US Congress, in which he warned of a critical shortage of air defense means in Ukraine.
In this letter, Zelensky also asked the US President and Congress to facilitate Ukraine’s receipt of Patriot PAC-3 missiles and additional air defense systems to protect against Russian attacks. In addition, the address discussed the difficulties in obtaining American weapons through the PURL program.
The President of Ukraine explained that situations when leaders of another state simultaneously address a letter to the President and the US Congress are rare.
