Ukrainians warned about new fraudulent scheme under the guise of “support” Facebook

State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine reported about the activation of fraudsters who, under the guise of Facebook’s support service, extort personal data from users and gain access to their accounts.

The attackers send fake emails on behalf of Facebook technical support, warning about alleged violations of the platform’s rules and the threat of banning the profile.

In the message, the user is offered to go to the link to pass the verification and save the account. The link leads to a fraudulent site that looks like an official resource. There they are asked to enter credentials: e-mail or phone number, password and two-factor authentication code. All this data is used by attackers to hack the page, which is later used in new fraudulent operations.

To avoid such threats, you should not enter your logins and passwords on unknown or suspicious sites, and you should carefully check the address and protocol of the page. Please note that all genuine emails from Meta related to account security or login are available in your profile settings under “Password & Security” within the last 14 days.

We will remind, on June 12, the National Bank of Ukraine warned citizens about a new wave of phishing mailings, which fraudsters disguise as official messages from the National Bank of Ukraine. Fraudsters use different e-mail addresses, but in the signature they indicate a fake e-mail — nbu@gov.nbu.ua (mailto:nbu@gov.nbu.ua), which outwardly resembles the real domain of the National Bank of Ukraine.

The regulator urged users to be careful: do not open files attached to suspicious emails and do not click on attached links.
