Updating textbooks, programs, involving tools based on artificial intelligence: the government is working on rebooting the New Ukrainian School

Ukrainian education is on the path of large-scale transformations, and the “New Ukrainian School” (NUS) reform, which began in 2016, is one of the most important initiatives. The goal of this reform is to create a modern, student-oriented education that meets the requirements of today and prepares children for the challenges of the future. However, due to external and internal factors, the reform needs to be revised and adapted to meet new realities. One of the key directions of work is the integration of innovative technologies and the development of educational programs in accordance with the most modern global standards.

Mykhailo Fedorov, Deputy Prime Minister for Innovation, Education, Science and Technology and Minister of Digital Transformation, said at the FutureTech: New Dimensions of Education event, organized within Diia.City United, that the government is actively working on restarting the reform of the National Academy of Sciences. According to him, the reboot involves a significant update of all components of the educational process – from curricula to textbooks and technological tools.

Fedorov spoke in detail about how the new concept of education will include the integration of modern technologies, in particular artificial intelligence, to improve the educational process and the development of students. He emphasized that one of the priority directions is the development of STEM education (S – science, T – technology, E – engineering, M – mathematics), which involves in-depth study of natural sciences, technologies, engineering and mathematics.

The main aspects of the NUS reboot

1. Updating educational materials and programs. A complete update of both printed and digital textbooks used by schoolchildren is planned. This applies to all subjects without exception to provide students with quality and up-to-date content.
2. Involvement of innovative technologies. Fedorov noted that it is important to use artificial intelligence and other new technologies to adapt educational content to the needs of modern students. In particular, the possibilities of using innovative approaches to improve the educational process are explored.
3. Teacher training and changing education standards. In addition to updating textbooks and programs, it is planned to change the standards of teacher training and improve their qualifications. Teachers need to learn to work with new technologies and implement them in the educational process.
4. Improving the learning environment. The reboot of NUS also involves the creation of modern learning conditions that will contribute to the development of children. Fedorov emphasized the importance of returning to offline education, since during the pandemic, Ukraine lagged significantly behind the EU countries in terms of education.
5. Implementation of artificial intelligence. The use of artificial intelligence will be a key element of the reboot of NUS, because it will significantly improve the quality of education and overcome the gap that arose due to a long period of distance learning.

Ukraine is going through a difficult period of reforming the education system, therefore, according to the government, restarting the National University of Ukraine is a key element on the way to creating a modern and competitive education. The goal of these changes is not only to adapt the educational system to new challenges, but also to ensure the development of a generation capable of critical thinking, working with the latest technologies and successfully integrating into the global community.

The government believes that the preparation for the full transition to the 12-year education system is an important stage in the reform, which should ensure the stable development of Ukrainian education and provide students with all the necessary tools to achieve success.
