“Filtr” introduced the main trends of media literacy
The development of media literacy must take into account the needs of new social groups and audiences. Every year, the field of media literacy continues to adapt to new challenges and opportunities arising from the development of innovative technologies. National media literacy project “Filter”, supported by Smart Angel, prepared an analytical report on the main trends of media literacy for 2024.
Olha Kravchenko, head of the National “Filter” project, noted that the analysis of media literacy trends is critically important for organizations working in this field so that they can effectively respond to new challenges and adapt their strategies and projects. She also noted that it stimulates the development of new approaches in engaging different audiences.
According to the report, among the key trends that will determine the development of media literacy in Ukraine and the world are:
- Emphasis on inclusiveness and the emergence of new target audiences
The development of media literacy should take into account the needs of various social groups, in particular, vulnerable categories of the population, such as internally displaced persons, veterans, people in temporarily occupied territories, older people, as well as people with disabilities. The report emphasizes the importance of an inclusive approach that will promote the involvement of all segments of society in the critical consumption and creation of media content. - Peculiarities of using artificial intelligence for the development of media literacy
The report examines both the opportunities and risks associated with the use of artificial intelligence in the field of media literacy. Artificial intelligence technologies can become a powerful tool for fact-checking and information analysis, but at the same time they create threats due to the possibility of disinformation and manipulation. - Combating disinformation during elections
In 2024, the world will hold the largest number of elections in history, increasing the risks of disinformation. The report offers recommendations for increasing citizens’ resistance to fake news and ensuring the transparency of the election process. - Teaching media literacy without the term “media literacy”
