Ukraine has officially allowed the free use of gas canisters for adult citizens. From now on, persons who have reached the age of 18 can purchase, carry, transport, store and use these means of self-defense without restrictions without obtaining any permits or certificates.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine made such changes to the resolution “On the procedure for the sale, purchase, registration, accounting and use of special means of self-defense.” The new rules do not provide for any additional requirements for citizens.
Special self-defense tools loaded with tear gas and irritants include aerosol cans with tear gas and irritants, gas pistols and revolvers of 6, 8 and 9 mm caliber, as well as cartridges for them loaded with tear gas and irritants.
At the same time, the simplification applies exclusively to gas canisters. Gas pistols and revolvers remain on the list of special tools for which a permit procedure applies. In particular, it is prohibited to store, carry, transport and use unnumbered or homemade gas pistols and revolvers.
Citizens who have reached the age of 18 may purchase gas pistols or revolvers only with a permit issued by an authorized unit of the National Police. To obtain it, it is necessary to submit a conclusion from the medical advisory commission of the healthcare institution on the absence of medical contraindications, as well as a certificate of studying the material part of the weapon, special means, rules for handling them and their use.
Purchase of special self-defense means by legal entities, individual entrepreneurs and citizens is carried out exclusively in specialized stores that have the right to sell such products. At the same time, gas canisters for adult Ukrainians are now available without registration, medical reports, or any other permits.
