159 schools will receive new equipment and modernize food units in 2024

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine allocated 1.5 billion hryvnias from the state budget in order to improve the quality of food in general secondary education institutions. These funds will be used for the purchase of modern equipment, the creation of new canteens, and the modernization of existing canteens in schools, which will significantly improve the nutritional conditions for students and teachers.
The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine reported that subventions will be distributed among local budgets for the implementation of 159 projects that were selected on a competitive basis. This approach guarantees that each project meets the established requirements and can be implemented effectively and efficiently. One of the key conditions for receiving this subvention was confirmed co-financing from local budgets, where the minimum amount of co-financing depended on the tax capacity index of each community. This requirement ensures the responsible use of funds and the involvement of local resources to improve school infrastructure.
This subvention is part of a broader strategy to reform school meals, which includes upgrading infrastructure and improving the quality of meals in schools. The latest equipment, which will be purchased as part of this initiative, will allow schools to ensure a high level of safety and quality of food consumed by students and staff. Special emphasis is placed on the implementation of modern technological processes, increasing energy efficiency indicators, as well as compliance with the principles of the HACCP system (risk analysis and control of critical points), which will ensure maximum food safety.
In addition, the modernization of food blocks includes mandatory compliance with fire and man-made safety requirements, which is critical for ensuring safe conditions in schools. Measures are also provided to ensure the availability of canteens for groups of the population with reduced mobility, which is an important component of creating an inclusive environment in educational institutions.
However, it is important to note that this initiative is not limited to the technical aspects of modernization. It also has great social significance, as it is aimed at improving the health and well-being of students. According to the government’s plans, by the end of the school year, all 159 schools that received funding will have fully renovated cafeterias equipped with the latest technological equipment. This will help not only to improve the quality of food, but also to create more comfortable conditions for children to stay in schools.
