A Russian major who led the shelling of Mariupol was blown up in Stavropol

In the Russian city of Stavropol, two men died as a result of an explosion, including Russian Major Zaur Gurtsiev, who led airstrikes on Mariupol during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation. Governor Volodymyr Vladimirov announced his death.
According to eyewitnesses, the explosion took place at night on Chekhova Street — a grenade was allegedly detonated by an unknown person near a multi-story residential building. According to preliminary data, the house itself was not damaged, but several cars were damaged. Vladimirov said that law enforcement agencies “are considering all versions, including the organization of a terrorist attack with the participation of Ukraine.”
Gurtsiyev was involved in air attacks on Mariupol. This source notes that he “implemented his own missile guidance technique,” which supposedly increased the accuracy of strikes and allowed him to “hit the supply base of the Azov battalion.” In October 2023, Vladimir Putin appointed Gurtsiyev as the first deputy head of the Stavropol city administration.
Let us remind you that thousands of civilians died as a result of the Mariupol bombing. In particular, one of the aerial bombs destroyed the drama theater building, in which, according to the Associated Press, up to 600 people could have died.
