It is known that a 19-year-old Ukrainian, who came to Rome as a tourist, decided to scratch his name on the wall of the Colosseum. His actions were noticed by other visitors, and the violator was immediately detained by security and the police.

The young man was charged with damaging cultural heritage, which in Italy is punishable by imprisonment for a period of 6 months to 3 years and an administrative fine of up to 10,000 euros.
The mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, thanked the guards for their quick response and emphasized that in such an important historical place “there is no place for hooliganism and thoughtless actions.”
Similar cases of petty vandalism of the Colosseum by tourists have happened before. In the summer of 2023, a 17-year-old tourist from Switzerland and a citizen of Great Britain of Bulgarian origin were arrested for a similar crime. The latter was fined almost 1,000 euros.
