After Erdogan’s meeting with Trump, Turkish Airlines announced the purchase of 225 Boeing aircraft
After Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s meeting with Donald Trump, Turkish Airlines (THY) announced the purchase of 75 wide-body Boeing 787 aircraft and the completion of negotiations for the purchase of 150 narrow-body 737 MAX. This is reported by Reuters
In the wide-body segment, the airline will purchase 50 B787-9/10 aircraft on a firm order and will have an option for another 25. Deliveries are scheduled for the period 2029-2034. Negotiations with Rolls-Royce and GE Aerospace for engines, spare parts and service are ongoing.
As for narrow-body aircraft, it is about 100 firm orders and 50 optional 737-8/10 MAX. The final placement of the order depends on the completion of negotiations with the engine manufacturer CFM International.
The carrier explained that the new contracts should support global expansion. Strategically, the company plans to have a fleet of completely new-generation aircraft by 2035 and to ensure an average annual growth of about 6%.
According to the 2023-2033 strategy, THY intends to exceed 800 aircraft by 2033, while at the end of June the fleet consisted of only 485 aircraft. In December 2023, the airline also ordered 355 Airbus aircraft.
