After Trump’s threats, Denmark increased spending on Arctic defense, including Greenland

The Danish government and parliament reached an agreement to increase defense spending on the Arctic and North Atlantic to 14.6 billion Danish kroner (over $2 billion). About this reported Ministry of Defense of Denmark.
According to the agreement, it is planned to increase the military presence in the region, including the Faroe Islands and Greenland. New military assets are expected to be deployed there, including three naval vessels, long-range drones and intelligence-gathering satellites.
The Ministry of Defense notes that this initiative will help strengthen monitoring and ensure sovereignty in these regions. The parties emphasized that due to modern security challenges, it is necessary to continue to develop new initiatives to stabilize the situation.
“We are facing serious security policy challenges. The Defense Intelligence Service assesses that the threat level in the Arctic and North Atlantic has increased. Therefore, we must significantly strengthen defenses in the regions. We are doing this thanks to this agreement, created in close cooperation with the governments of the Faroe Islands and Greenland The agreement lays the foundation on which we will build our actions in the first half of 2025.”, – emphasized the Minister of Defense of Denmark, Trolls Lund Poulsen.
It will be recalled that Donald Trump previously stated that for the purpose of national security and freedom around the world, the United States believes that possession and control of Greenland is its absolute necessity.
