Age-gender pyramid of the population of Ukraine: what the latest research shows
Demographic issues in Ukraine are too acute. Population loss, an aging society and an imbalance between men and women are challenges that affect a country’s social and economic stability. The last one research, the results of which were published by Open4Business on February 15, indicate the continuation of negative trends in the population structure. The demographic pyramid clearly demonstrates these processes and allows us to assess the real state of affairs.

The structure of the population has a pronounced character of a narrowed pyramid, which indicates a gradual reduction in the number of young age groups. People aged 30-50 remain the most numerous, while the number of children and teenagers is much lower. This is the result of a long-term decline in the birth rate, which continues to this day.
Another important feature is noticeable – a significant advantage of women over men in the age groups of 60 years and older. This is a general world trend, which is explained by the fact that women live longer on average than men. However, in the younger age categories, the ratio of men and women remains relatively even.
The data clearly indicate the aging of the population, which creates a significant burden on the social sphere. The more seniors there are, the more resources are needed for their health care and retirement support. At the same time, the number of working population is gradually decreasing, which may create additional economic difficulties in the future.
The current demographic situation requires urgent solutions. If the current trends do not change, Ukraine will face an even greater reduction in the number of young people, an increase in the share of elderly people, and a further imbalance between the sexes. This means that the state policy should be aimed at supporting the birth rate and creating conditions for the preservation of labor resources in the country.
