Apple will allow parents to adjust access to applications based on the age of the child
Apple plans to implement a number of new features to improve the safety of children in its ecosystem, including allowing parents to indicate the age of the child in applications. Parents will be able to specify the child’s age range in their account, which will automatically limit access to age-restricted apps in the App Store, informs The Verge.
Apple notes that age information will only be shared with developers with parental consent. At the same time, the function will not transmit the date of birth of the child. The update will also affect age ratings in the App Store. From now on, apps will receive one of the new categories: 4+, 9+, 13+, 16+ or 18+.
Developers will be required to indicate whether an app contains user-generated content or advertising opportunities that may affect the availability of content that does not meet age restrictions. Developers should also indicate whether the application has its own content control tools.
For children’s accounts, Apple will introduce a new process for setting them up and give parents the option to correct a child’s age if it was entered incorrectly when the account was created.
