April 13: memorable dates and holidays

10 years ago, on April 13, 2014, acting President of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov announced the start of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) in Donbas. In this way, Ukraine reacted to the invasion of Russian units in the eastern regions of the country, which later turned into a full-scale war.

April 13 is celebrated:

World Rock and Roll Day is an unofficial holiday that is very popular among its fans in all corners of the world. Rock and roll was created in the USA in the middle of the 20th century, but quickly spread to other countries.

International Plant Appreciation Day. This holiday appeared in the 21st century with the aim of attracting the attention of society to the important influence of plants on the planet and man, as well as involvement in nature conservation.

International Functional Neurological Disorders Awareness Day, created to raise awareness of neurological disorders and their impact on human life and health.

Memorable historical dates:

1204 – the Crusaders of Pope Innocent III took Greek Orthodox Constantinople;
1598 – King of France Henry IV signed the Edict of Nantes, granting civil rights to the Huguenots, promoting civil unity, secularism and religious tolerance;
1870 – the famous “Metropolitan” Museum of Art was opened in New York;
1923 – Wembley Stadium was inaugurated in London;
1924 – AEK football club was founded in Greece;
1940 — one of the stages of deportation of people from the western regions of Ukraine began, more than 320,000 people were evicted;
1943 – the Thomas Jefferson Memorial was opened in Washington;
1986 – Ivan Paul II was the first among the popes to visit the synagogue;
2012 – the Verkhovna Rada adopted the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
