On April 14, interesting historical events took place at different times, and a number of attempts were also carried out:

World Day Against Child Sexual Abuse

Dedicated to raising awareness of the devastating effects of child sexual abuse and promoting prevention efforts worldwide. Child sexual abuse is a serious and widespread problem that affects millions of children every year. It is a global problem that requires coordinated and sustained efforts to prevent and resolve.

World Quantum Day

Founded in 2022, it celebrates the progress and potential of quantum science and technology, and is an initiative of quantum scientists from more than 65 countries to promote public understanding of quantum science and quantum technology.

World Chagas Disease Day

The date of the celebration was chosen in honor of the day of diagnosis of this disease by the Brazilian doctor Carlos Ribeira Justiniano Chagas in 1909. The event was launched on May 24, 2019.

Chagas’ disease is a parasitic tropical disease that is often faced by low-income segments of the population. A feature of the disease is its asymptomatic development. Often the carriers of parasites are bedbugs, infection is also possible through the consumption of contaminated food, through blood, from mother to child.

International Sudden Laughter Day

This event was started in 1997 by speaker and author Izzy Gesell. The International Laughter Day aims to remind humanity about the benefits of daily hearty laughter and engaging in the manifestation of one’s own emotions.

Petro Arkadyevich Stolypin was born on April 14, 1862 – the greatest statesman-reformer, since July 8, 1906, the prime minister of the Empire. He was the initiator of the introduction of universal free primary education in the country.

This day is marked by a series of dramatic events, so it can be called the Day of Attempts.

On April 14, 1865, actor John Booth fatally wounded US President Abraham Lincoln at Ford’s Theater in Washington. Ironically, the president signed a proposal to create the Secret Service on that day. However, now her duty includes ensuring the security of the country’s president, and then she was appointed to fight against counterfeiters.

On April 14, 1865, the southerner Lewis Powell stabbed US Secretary of State William Seward several times in the throat, but he miraculously survived and bought Alaska from Russia two years later.

On April 14, 1879, there was an attempt on the Russian Emperor Alexander II, who was walking in the morning on the outskirts of the Winter Palace without guards or companions. Terrorist Oleksandr Solovyov shot the emperor 5 times with a revolver, but… missed. During an attempt to detain Solovyov, he took poison, but was saved by medics who gave him an antidote. He was found guilty, deprived of all state rights and executed by hanging.

On April 14, 1967, several bombs exploded in the country’s capital, Port-au-Prince, during the 60th birthday celebrations of Haitian president-dictator Francois Duvalier. The explosions were organized by the Haitian opposition. Duval acted radically – he carried out a bloody purge in the army, getting rid of officers and soldiers who did not inspire confidence in him. 19 officers, 10 of whom were the highest-ranking members of the presidential guard, were arrested and later executed, and around 200 military and civilian personnel were also executed.

On April 14, 2014, bombs hidden inside vehicles detonated at a bus station in New Nyanya, a suburb on the outskirts of Abuja, Nigeria. The first explosion was followed by more explosions, killing at least 75 people and injuring more than 140.

Most terrorist attacks in the country are religiously motivated, over 15,000 people have died in the world over the last 10 years.
