Bomb shelters are being inspected in Poland against the backdrop of aggressive actions by the Russian Federation

After the incident with the violation of airspace by Russian drones, Poland began a large-scale inspection of shelters. As of September 20, about two thousand objects have already been inspected, in total they plan to check almost four thousand. This was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration of Poland.

The ministry emphasized that the construction and reconstruction of shelters is currently one of the key areas of the government’s Population Protection and Civil Defense Program. For these purposes, local authorities will receive almost 5 billion zlotys (over 50 billion hryvnias) for 2025-2026. If the building does not have an emergency shelter, the owners or managers of the institutions are offered state subsidies for its arrangement, according to the press release of the Polish government.

The authorities divided the so-called objects of collective protection into places of temporary shelter and special protective structures, which are divided into shelters and storage facilities.

According to the government, as of September 12, i.e., two days after the Russian drone raid, nearly four thousand facilities across the country were ordered to be inspected. By September 17, more than two thousand such inspections were carried out, while more than a thousand structures were recognized as suitable for performing protective functions. Currently, bomb shelters in Poland are inspected by two services — the State Fire Service and the District Inspection of Building Supervision.

The ministry emphasized that priority will be given to investments in the regions covered by the Eastern Shield National Deterrence and Defense Program. At the same time, support will be provided to cities and settlements that are particularly vulnerable to possible threats, the voivode noted.
