British MP accused of harassing Ukrainian translator
Member of the British Parliament Cameron Thomas was accused of sending sexually suggestive messages to a Ukrainian translator during his visit to Kyiv. About this informs The Times.
The incident occurred in February, when Thomas arrived in Ukraine on the occasion of the third anniversary of the start of the full-scale invasion and delivered humanitarian aid to Kharkiv. The MP allegedly sent the woman a series of intimate messages via WhatsApp, including: “I want you” and “I would like to stay with you for a few days”.
After that, the translator showed the message to the other participants of the trip, who confirmed that they caused her discomfort. When asked by the media to comment on the situation, a spokesman for Thomas said that these were private messages between two people who “remain in contact.”
42-year-old Cameron Thomas is a former officer of the Royal Air Force of Great Britain. Participant of business trips to Iraq, the UAE and the Falkland Islands. In August 2021, his team participated in preparations for the withdrawal of British troops from Afghanistan. He left the service in the rank of lieutenant to start a political career. In 2024, he was elected to the parliament from the Liberal Democratic Party.
It will be recalled that in December 2024, the Scottish publication Daily Record reported that the former head of the city council of Edinburgh, Cammy Day, sent messages with sexual hints to Ukrainian refugees, complimented their appearance and offered to “meet for wine.” After the publicity, he resigned. Later, Day called the scandal a “politically motivated conspiracy”, but this version was publicly denied by one of the victims.
