Convicts may be allowed to temporarily leave colony: the Cabinet of Ministers named conditions

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the draft law, which provides for the possibility of temporary departures of prisoners outside the colony under certain circumstances, in particular for a period of up to one week. About this reported representative of the government in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk.

On October 15, the government supported the draft law “On Amendments to Article 111 of the Criminal Executive Code of Ukraine” in connection with the decision of the Constitutional Court of December 20, 2023.

According to the new draft law, prisoners from correctional colonies of the minimum and medium security level can obtain permission for short-term trips outside the colony for a period of up to 7 days in case of death or serious illness of a close relative. Round-trip travel time will not be taken into account, but it should not exceed three days.

Prisoners who are held in colonies with light conditions or in social rehabilitation units will also be able to leave for one day, without taking into account the travel time, if they are granted permission. Those who receive a seven-day exit permit will be able to travel on their own, while other categories must be accompanied by security.

It is important that all expenses related to short-term departures of prisoners must be covered by the convicts themselves or their relatives.
