Denmark is ready to grant permission to expand the US military presence in Greenland

Denmark is ready to allow the United States to expand its presence in Greenland. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, against the background of US President Donald Trump’s plans to purchase the world’s largest island. informs Bloomberg.

Frederiksen noted that an American military base is already located on the territory of Greenland, which performs the tasks of space surveillance and detection of missile threats.

In this context, according to her, the US may have more opportunities:

“I fully agree with the Americans that the Far North, the Arctic region is becoming increasingly important when we talk about defense, security and deterrence. And we can find a way to have a stronger presence in Greenland.”

Frederiksen emphasized that Greenland remains part of Denmark and “is not for sale”. In addition, the Prime Minister responded to the statement of the US Vice President JD Vance, who questioned the reliability of Denmark as an ally.

“We have fought side by side with the Americans for many, many decades. I will not agree with the idea that Denmark is a bad ally. We are not, have not been and will not be in the future.”, she emphasized.
