EU ambassadors agreed on the text of a new trade agreement with Ukraine
On October 8, the ambassadors of the member states of the European Union in Brussels agreed on a new version of the text of the agreement on the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) between the EU and Ukraine, which should replace the “trade visa-free”, which expired in June 2025.
The new trade agreement was approved at the level of ambassadors and must be finally approved by EU ministers on October 13.
“Coreper (Committee of Permanent Representatives of the EU) today approved this decision. The act will be adopted on Monday by the EU Council on Justice and Internal Affairs, the message says.
After approval by the European Union, the agreement on a deep and comprehensive free trade area with Ukraine will be approved within the framework of the association committee between the EU and Ukraine in the trade configuration established in accordance with the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU. This will happen after Ukraine also approves its position. Only after the completion of these procedures will the new trade rules between Ukraine and the EU enter into force.
We would like to remind you that on June 30, the European Commission announced the completion of negotiations with Ukraine regarding the basic principles of revising the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area after the expiration of the autonomous trade measures that provided preferential treatment to Ukrainian exporters until June 5, 2025.
