EU diplomats remain in Kyiv despite threats from Russia
The European Union does not plan to change its position or diplomatic presence in Kyiv, despite the latest public threats from the Russian Federation regarding new attacks on the Ukrainian capital. Representatives of the European Commission called Moscow’s actions part of a reckless escalation tactic.
Brussels stressed that Russia is once again trying to baselessly place responsibility for the war on Ukraine. It was noted that in recent years, several diplomatic institutions, including the European Union mission, have already been damaged as a result of attacks.
“Let me reiterate our position on this issue. Russia’s public threats to attack Kyiv are part of its reckless escalation tactics… As for us, the EU, we will not change our position or our presence in Kyiv,” European Commission spokesman Anouar El-Announi emphasized.
According to the official representative of the institution, daily attacks on Ukrainian cities are leading to the death of civilians, but Russia continues to ignore calls for a ceasefire. In particular, this concerns recent proposals voiced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“Despite Ukraine’s long-standing attempts to call for a ceasefire and peace, including President Zelensky’s recent proposal, Russia has never shown any serious intention to stop the war, and instead continues to escalate and kill,” Anouar El-Anuni concluded.
The European Union is thus demonstrating solidarity with a state under attack and refusing to succumb to pressure over threats to the security of its diplomatic corps. The persistence of the international presence in Kyiv remains an important political signal to the world community.
