Residents of the Iranian city of Yasuj could collect fish just on their street. On May 4, an unusual meteorological phenomenon – “fish rain” – occurred there. Along with the drops of water, fish fell from the sky.
The cause of such an anomaly was a tornado that unfolded over the reservoir. A whirlwind lifted the fish and carried it several kilometers away. After a little rain, the wind subsided and “surprises” fell from the reservoir on Yasuja Street. As you can see in the video below, the fish were quite large. Some of them remained alive even after traveling in the clouds and falling from a height of several hundred meters.
The phenomenon, when animals or fruits, vegetables and various objects fall from the sky during rain, is rare, but not unique. Usually its cause is the tornado itself.
There are known cases when frogs, snakes, jellyfish and even bats and birds fell from the sky together with the downpour.
