France will supply Ukraine with more long-range SCALP missiles: details
According to message RBC-Ukraine with reference to Deutsche Welle, France is considering the possibility of transferring to Ukraine a batch of long-range SCALP missiles, the expiration date of which is coming to an end.
The transfer of SCALP missiles may take place within the framework of the Chrysalis program, which provides for the modernization and extension of the service life of the weapon. In particular, we are talking about missiles made from components whose expiration date has already passed.
It is noted that “expired” missiles are divided into two types: those that have expired, those from which individual components have been dismantled for use in other SCALPs.
After delivery to local factories within three months, these missiles will be made suitable for combat use.
“Since these missiles are supposed to be used quickly against Russia, their tests will be conducted according to a simplified scheme“, the source adds.
It is worth noting that this is not the first batch of SCALP missiles that France is transferring to Ukraine. Last year, in July 2023, 50 missiles were already delivered to the Defense Forces of Ukraine. And in January 2024, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the delivery of another 40 units.
Characteristics of the SCALP missile:
- length – 5.1 meters;
- case diameter – 630 mm;
- mass – 1300 kilograms;
- operational range, according to information from the developer – 560 kilometers.
There is also an export version of the missile with a shorter flight range and a lower warhead weight.
