Fuel truck explosion kills 86 people in Nigeria

In the north of Nigeria, there was an explosion of a gasoline truck, as a result of which 86 people died, and more than half a hundred received severe burns. The incident happened when the crowd rushed to the scene of the accident of the petrol truck in search of fuel, informs Reuters.
The tragedy occurred on the road connecting Abuja, the federal capital of Nigeria, with the city of Kaduna. A gasoline tanker carrying 60,000 liters of fuel overturned and exploded.
“The final death toll from the petrol truck explosion is 86. We buried 86 charred bodies between midnight and 2am today”, says the message.
Another 55 people were injured. A similar accident occurred in Jigawa state in October, which killed 147 people.
The increase in petrol prices in Nigeria, which has exceeded 400%, has forced many residents to look for alternative ways of obtaining fuel. This follows the abolition of petrol subsidies initiated by President Bola Tinubu after assuming office in May 2023.
