Georgia wants to ban Saakashvili’s party

The “United National Movement” party, founded by the former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, can be recognized as contradicting the Constitution. This also applies to the political forces associated with it. This was reported by one of the leaders of the “Georgian Dream” party, Mamuka Mdinaradze. informs “Radio Liberty”.

“Georgian Dream” intends to apply to the Constitutional Court with an initiative to declare a number of opposition parties, in particular “United National Movement” and its political allies, unconstitutional.

The basis for this is the conclusions of the temporary investigative commission created by the party. According to Mdinaradze, if the decision is adopted, the mentioned political forces will lose the right to participate in local elections, and their activities will be terminated.

Mdinaradze emphasized that even if the opposition declares its intention to boycott the elections to local authorities, in fact, participation in them will become legally impossible for these parties. This, he believes, will contribute to the strengthening of the constitutional order and stability in the country. He noted that the commission will form the necessary legal framework for submission to the Constitutional Court.

“Already at this stage, it is clear that the conclusion of the investigative commission will be a valid legal basis for recognizing these parties as unconstitutional. We are convinced that the Constitutional Court will issue an objective decision. The collective “United National Movement” will not be able to participate not only in local elections, but also in any elections on the territory of Georgia. These parties, as anti-Georgian, anti-constitutional, anti-people and criminal, will be recognized as unconstitutional and prohibited from operating!”, – emphasized Mdinaradze.
