Home European AI company Mistral AI bought Austrian AI physicist Emmi AI

French company Mistral AI, one of the largest European developers of artificial intelligence, announced the purchase of Vienna-based Emmi AI. The parties did not disclose the financial terms of the deal. This is reported by Reuters.

Emmi AI specializes in artificial intelligence technologies that can process complex physical phenomena, including air flows, heat transfer and stresses in materials. In 2025, the company raised 15 million euros in a financing round.

Mistral AI said that the acquisition strengthens the company’s strategy for European customers and will help develop solutions for engineering and manufacturing. The integration of Emmi AI technologies should enable Mistral AI industrial systems to more accurately model and interact with the physical world.

The company cited the example of cooperation with Dutch lithography machine manufacturer ASML. According to it, ASML equipment with Mistral AI technologies uses computer vision models to detect defects, reducing diagnostic time from dozens of hours to eight minutes.

The deal comes against the backdrop of the growing role of industrial artificial intelligence in Europe and the bloc’s desire to reduce dependence on US and Chinese technologies.
