How to return children deported to Russia was discussed in Brussels

A conference devoted to the return of Ukrainian children who were illegally deported by the Russians was held in the building of the European Commission in Brussels. This is just one of a number of international events dedicated to the problem of the abduction of young Ukrainians, held on the eve of the Global Peace Summit.

Representatives of Ukraine emphasized the importance of support from international partners. After all, for example, Qatar’s mediation in this matter helped to return hundreds of young Ukrainians to the Motherland.

“In order to force Russia to return the children to Ukraine, we need a global information campaign that would unite the efforts of all interested parties. We pay special attention to children from the Kherson Children’s Home and the Oleshkiv boarding school, where the situation is particularly critical. It is important that we not only talked about these cases in international forums, but also actively acted, using all available means for their return and reintegration.” – said adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Daria Zarivna.

The meeting was also attended by the representative of the EU (EUSR) for human rights Olaf Skoog, the head of the office of the vice president of the European Commission Colin Shikluna, the director of the Human Rights Institute of the International Bar Association and the co-chair of the Bring Kids Back UA working group Baroness Helena Kennedy and others.

“Why does Russia kidnap Ukrainian children? The motives are complex and varied. One of the main ones is that Russia will use Ukrainian children as a means of trade”, – noted Mrs. Kennedy.
