In Britain, everyone who works for the Russian government was obliged to register under threat of imprisonment

The government of Great Britain obliged everyone who works for the Russian government on its territory to undergo mandatory registration. In case of violation of this requirement, individuals will face up to five years in prison. About this informs Yahoo News.

From July 1, the foreign influence registration scheme (Firs) will come into force in Great Britain, which will apply to states that pose a threat to the country’s national interests. The junior security minister of the United Kingdom, Dan Jarvis, said that Russia will be included in this scheme.

“Russia poses an acute threat to the UK’s national security. In recent years, its hostile actions have included the use of a deadly nerve agent in Salisbury, espionage, arson and cyber attacks, including attempts to hack the emails of British parliamentarians through phishing campaigns. In addition, Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine clearly demonstrates its intent to undermine European and global security.” Jarvis explained.

In this regard, all persons acting on behalf of the Russian government on the territory of Great Britain will be required to register with Firs. Violation of this requirement entails criminal liability.

According to Jarvis, anyone who “performs actions within the framework of agreements” with Russian state structures, in particular the armed forces, special services or the president of the Russian Federation, must undergo mandatory registration.

“We also plan to include in the list several political parties controlled by Russia, in particular the United Russia party”, Jarvis added.

The Firs scheme, which was due to start in 2024, was delayed following a change of government in August. However, as the minister confirmed, the launch will take place on July 1.
