In Germany, activists filed a lawsuit against the social network “X”
In Berlin, German human rights activists sued the social network “X” because of its refusal to provide the necessary data for the study. About this informs Reuters agency.
The Civil Rights Society (GFF) and Democracy Reporting International (DRI) said that “X” does not systematically provide access to data such as the reach of posts, the number of likes and shares.
“Other platforms have given us access to systematically monitor public debate on their platforms, but X has refused to do so,” – noted DRI representative Michael Mayer-Resende.
Activists stress that they have a legal right to receive this data under the EU’s Digital Services Regulation.
“Platforms are increasingly being used against democratic elections. We must defend ourselves.” – stressed Simona Ruf from GFF.
Given that “X” remains an important platform for the German government and politicians, the situation is drawing even more attention, especially in light of social network owner Elon Musk’s recent support for the German far-right.
