In Mexico, tropical storms have killed at least 44 people

At least 44 people have died in Mexico as a result of severe flooding and landslides caused by tropical storm “Priscilla” and “Raymond”. The authorities declared a state of emergency and mobilized the army to support the victims, reports Reuters.

The downpours, which lasted for several days, caused large-scale destruction in the central and eastern regions of the country. According to the government, the most deaths were recorded in the state of Veracruz – 18 people. In the state of Hidalgo, the element took the lives of 16 people, in Puebla – nine, and one more person died in Queretaro. The administration of President Claudia Sheinbaum has activated a response plan to help 139 affected cities.

“We continue to pay attention to the emergency situation in Veracruz, Hidalgo, Puebla, Querétaro and San Luis Potosí, coordinating our actions with the governors, as well as with various federal authorities. The National Committee for Emergency Situations works in a permanent mode, Claudia Sheinbaum said.

To eliminate the consequences of the natural disaster, the Ministry of Defense sent more than 5,400 military personnel to monitor the situation, evacuate the population from dangerous areas, and clear the affected areas.
