Children of war

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, free English courses were opened for displaced children: how to join

In the conditions of war, education and development of children become one of the main priorities of society. Children of internally displaced persons (IDPs), who lost their homes, familiar environment and access to quality education due to the war, need special attention. Providing them with opportunities for training is not only support in adapting to new conditions, but also an investment in the future of Ukraine. After all, it is these children who will create our tomorrow. Educational initiatives aimed at helping children who have survived the trauma of war become extremely important for their integration, emotional recovery and formation of life prospects.

One of these projects was the initiative of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration (OVA), which, together with the IDP Council, organized free English language courses for migrant children. The project is aimed at children aged 7 to 12 who want to acquire basic knowledge of the English language. These activities aim not only to teach children new words or grammatical structures, but also to give them a sense of confidence in their abilities, the opportunity to communicate and express their thoughts.

The director of the department of social protection of the population of Dnipropetrovsk OVA Olena Krisheny emphasized the importance of this project:

“Knowledge of English opens up new opportunities. This course for children is an opportunity to spend time interestingly and usefully. There, they will receive basic knowledge that will help them communicate confidently and express their opinion in the future.”

The course program is built in such a way that learning is accessible and comfortable for everyone. All lessons are designed for self-study, allowing children to work at their own pace. In total, the course includes 10 lessons, which are based on a specially developed textbook. It contains interesting tasks and interactive games that make the learning process exciting and easy to understand.

Each lesson is devoted to a separate topic that is important for the development of basic communication in English. Topics include alphabet, family, seasons, sports, pets, food, school subjects, city, shopping, future profession. This approach allows children not only to acquire basic knowledge, but also to acquire skills that will be needed in everyday life.

To make learning as accessible as possible, the first lesson is already publicly available at the link: View the lesson. You can register your child for the course using the online form: Sign up for a course.

The initiative became possible thanks to the coordinated cooperation of the Dnipropetrovsk OVA and the Council on IDPs. This project is an example of how important it is to provide children with not only material support, but also intellectual and cultural opportunities that will help them integrate in new conditions.

Education for migrant children is more than just learning. It is a tool that helps them regain a sense of stability, build new connections, and gain knowledge that will open doors to new perspectives. Such projects prove that even in the most difficult times it is possible to create an environment that inspires, develops and helps children believe in a bright future.
