In Ukraine, psychologists and psychotherapists will be certified

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, signed Law No. 12030, which introduces the certification of psychologists and psychotherapists. About this reported on the website of the parliament.

In accordance with the law, the National Commission on Mental Health will be established, which will be under the management of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. Psychologists will be certified by this commission, while psychotherapists will be certified by self-regulated organizations with international recognition.

The document also provides for measures to protect mental health in the workplace and recommends employers to introduce psychosocial support programs for employees.  In addition, Ukraine plans to develop state and local mental health programs, as well as special initiatives to support children, youth, military personnel, veterans, and internally displaced persons.

People’s deputy and head of the Parliamentary Committee on National Health, Medical Assistance and Medical Insurance Mykhailo Radutsky noted that the draft law is based on WHO and EU recommendations. In particular, it takes into account the concept of “Mental health in all policies”.

“This approach means that any decisions or measures implemented at the state, regional or local level should take into account their impact on the mental health of the population,” – said Radutskyi.

We would like to remind you that from January 1, 2025, a new procedure for psychiatric examinations began to operate in Ukraine. Not all medical institutions will be able to issue relevant certificates, and the frequency of mandatory examinations will depend on the profession.
