Joe Biden called on the US Congress to allocate another $24 billion for Ukraine

US President Joe Biden appealed to Congress to allocate an additional $24 billion to strengthen military support for Ukraine. About this informs Political.

According to the document, this amount should be included in a package of financial solutions aimed at avoiding interruptions in government funding after the change of presidential administration. Of these funds, $16 billion (two-thirds) is planned to be used to restore the Pentagon’s weapons stockpile. The remaining $8 billion will be used as part of an initiative to provide security assistance to Ukraine, which provides for the financing of contracts with American companies for the supply of weapons.

However, Biden’s proposal drew criticism from some Republicans. Senator Mike Lee from Utah expressed his disagreement with this request on the X social network, accusing Biden of “unilaterally forgiving” loans to Ukraine in the amount of $4.7 billion. Lee also said Congress should not authorize further spending, which he said would undermine efforts at peace talks initiated by Donald Trump.

Biden’s request marked a new stage in the struggle for support for Ukraine in wartime conditions, but its implementation largely depends on the decision of Congress, where the funding causes heated political debates.
