May 16: holidays and events on this day
Holidays and commemorative dates:
International Day of Peaceful Coexistence – has been celebrated since 2018 on the initiative of the UN. The holiday aims to draw attention to the problems of solidarity, unity and tolerance around the world.
Vyshyvanka day – is celebrated every year on the third Thursday of May. The holiday is intended to remind about the importance of preserving traditions. At first it was celebrated only in Ukraine, then it acquired an international character. In 2006, Lesya Voronyuk, a student of the Chernivtsi National University named after Yuriy Fedkovich, initiated the campaign “World Embroidery Day”. The girl suggested that students and teachers choose a day to come to the university together in embroidered dresses. The first time only a few dozen enthusiasts joined the action, and the next year – a significant part of the university community. Later, Vyshyvanka Day began to be celebrated at the national level.
