Microsoft offers Chinese experts working on AI to leave the country
Tech giant Microsoft is recommending that hundreds of its Chinese employees specializing in artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies consider moving out of China. This decision is connected to the deepening of confrontation between the US and China in the field of technology, in particular, with the restrictions that Washington imposes on Beijing’s access to artificial intelligence chips.
“Providing internal capabilities is a regular part of managing our global business. As part of this process, we shared the possibility of an optional internal transition with some employees“, – said a representative of Microsoft.
According to the Wall Street Journal and Reuters, about 700-800 Chinese engineers working at Microsoft on machine learning and other computing technologies have received offers to move to the United States, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand. This decision is caused by concerns about the possibility of using advanced technology by the Chinese military.
U materials it is said that the aggravation of relations between the US and China has been observed for a long time. Washington has sought to limit Beijing’s access to key technologies such as artificial intelligence chips over fears they could be used for military purposes.
Microsoft is not the only company facing similar challenges. Other tech giants are also being forced to adapt to the new geopolitical reality and find ways to stay afloat amid growing tensions between the world’s two largest economies.
