Mobilization is the most painful issue: opinions of Ukrainians (survey)
Since 2022, Ukraine has been living in a state of brutal war, which has radically changed the lives of millions of people. Mobilization has become an integral part of this new reality, causing conflicting emotions and complex moral dilemmas in Ukrainian society.
Yuliya Khomenko, a journalist of the “FAKT” IA, conducted a survey among the residents of Ukraine regarding mobilization. The survey showed that the attitude towards mobilization is ambiguous.
More than 52% of respondents believe that mobilization is necessary, but requires improvement in the training of the mobilized and providing them with proper weapons and equipment. Another 28% of respondents do not support mobilization in its current form, considering it coercive and ineffective. Instead, only 20% of respondents spoke in favor of voluntary mobilization, offering to stimulate service with benefits and social guarantees.
Different voices, one people:
Olena (Zhytomyr): “Peace is the main thing. The most painful thing is that untrained soldiers are thrown to the front. I worry for the boys on the front line, I pray for them. Mobilization is necessary, but only under the condition of good preparation.“

Sergey (military): “No weapons! It is scary! Bad situation with ammunition and equipment. There is actually nothing to fight! Where to throw young people to war? I am a military personnel, barely survived. Mobilization is necessary, otherwise we will not see our relatives. We need to be changed! The biggest thing that confuses me is, why aren’t the deputies at the front? Why don’t they defend their country? “
Olga (military): “I am a soldier myself! Mobilization is necessary, but not forced. Those who don’t want to, won’t do well there. It is better for them to stay at home. Laws should be rewritten so that those who do not want to become “meat”. It’s hell on the front lines, and motivation plays a big role.“

Alexandra (mother): “To serve is everyone’s duty. I am conscripted, but on maternity leave. Mobilization is necessary and tough. Otherwise, if no one protects us, the Russians will come to my children tomorrow.”

Victoria (Aitivite): “I feel good about mobilization. There is a war going on in Ukraine, and our land must be defended. To whom health allows – everyone should serve. The state is doing the right thing by adopting appropriate laws.“

Oleksiy (student): “The situation with the supply of weapons is complicated. There are enough people willing to serve, but those who want to volunteer have halved in number. I am not ready for war, but our laws do not ask permission. What will I be useful in the war? I will become “meat”. I prefer to work officially and give half of my salary to the ZSU. I don’t like mobilization. Personnel military or those who are ready should go there.”
Yuriy (student): “I don’t like mobilization. Not ready to give life. I’m only 19, I haven’t lived a normal life yet. Why can’t the state come up with laws so that those who don’t want to go to war don’t?“
The statements of people from different parts of Ukraine demonstrate the complexity and ambiguity of the mobilization process, and also indicate that this process is extremely painful for them. Ukrainians with different life experiences, views and circumstances have different attitudes to this topic, observing the actions of TCC employees.
