NATO expresses concern over DPRK troops being sent to Russia

NATO has no confirmation that North Korea is sending military forces to Russia to participate in the war against Ukraine, but such reports are a cause for serious concern. About this stated NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, commenting on information about a possible new agreement between Russia and North Korea.
When asked by journalists about the existence of confirmed data regarding the agreement between the Russian Federation and the DPRK, which covers not only the supply of weapons, but also the sending of North Korean troops to support Russian military operations, Rutte answered that he could not confirm this information, but such data caused concern among the members of the Alliance .
“We know that North Korea is helping to support Russia’s military efforts against Ukraine, and we strongly condemn, shall we say, the deepening of military cooperation between Russia and North Korea.”, he emphasized.
Rutte also drew attention to the growing cooperation between Russia, China, North Korea and Iran, which, in his opinion, negatively affects stability in both the Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific regions. According to the Secretary General, in a world that is becoming increasingly interconnected, the international community must join forces to overcome common security challenges.
The prerequisite for these concerns was the initiative of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who on October 14 submitted to the Russian State Duma a draft ratification of the “comprehensive strategic partnership” agreement with North Korea. This treaty, signed on June 19, 2024, provides for mutual military and other support in the event of armed aggression against one of the parties.
According to the assessment of the Ukrainian Center for Combating Disinformation, the treaty between the Russian Federation and the DPRK actually creates a military alliance, as it includes provisions on providing assistance by all available means in the event of aggression against one of the participating states. According to them, this is a direct threat to regional and global security.
