Nvidia is developing a new AI chip for China

Nvidia is working on a new AI chip for the Chinese market based on its state-of-the-art Blackwell architecture. It is expected to outperform the current H20 model, informsReuters agency.

The new chip, which will be named B30A, will have a single-chip design. This is estimated to provide about half the computing performance of a more complex two-chip configuration in Nvidia’s flagship B300 accelerator card, the sources said.

The single-chip format means that all the key elements of the integrated circuit are located on a single piece of silicon, rather than distributed among several dies. The device will be equipped with high-bandwidth memory and NVLink technology for high-speed data transfer between processors. The same features are present in the H20, which is based on the previous Hopper architecture.

Although the final specifications of the chip have not yet been approved, Nvidia plans to provide samples to Chinese customers for testing as early as next month, the sources said.

“We are evaluating various products for our roadmap to be ready to compete within the limits permitted by governments. Everything we offer is fully approved by the relevant authorities and designed exclusively for beneficial commercial use.”— Nvidia said.

We will remind you that last week US President Donald Trump allowed the sale of more powerful Nvidia chips to China. Obtaining the necessary approvals from US regulators remains in question due to serious concerns in Washington about China’s excessive access to US technology in the field of artificial intelligence.
