Over 700 MW of wind power capacity is being built in Ukraine

Ukraine is currently actively building more than 700 MW of wind power, alongside which more than 200 MW of energy storage systems (BESS) are being installed. About this reported Chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association Andrii Konechenkov.

“More importantly, we have projects underway right now with over 700MW of new wind capacity already under construction. Alongside this, over 200MW of BESS are under construction, which are key to creating a modern, flexible grid.” – said Konechenkov during a panel discussion on investing in energy sustainability and recovery of Ukraine within the framework of URC-2025 in Rome.

He reported that from 2022 to the first quarter of 2025, 258 MW of new wind power plants were put into operation in Ukraine, and 50% of them were financed by international investors.

“This shows the strong foundation of trust and partnership that we had before the war, the foundation that we are now restoring. The Ukrainian wind energy market is not just surviving, it is active, growing and open for business.” Konechenkov stressed.

At the same time, he noted that due to security conditions, the geographical center of the new development has moved to the western regions of the country. According to his presentation, 1.9 GW of wind capacity has been installed in Ukraine today, of which 69% is located in the temporarily occupied territory.

The active growth of the industry is supported by strategic government documents, in particular the National Renewable Energy Action Plan, which foresees the achievement of 6.2 GW of wind capacity by 2030. According to the Strategy for the Development of Distributed Generation, wind energy is identified as a key factor in creating a decentralized and sustainable energy system that is much more difficult to attack.
